Timeless

Timeless

I always liked the timeless look of a black and white photo, and when it's captured on film it gives me a certain nostalgia. It's fun to be back shooting film again.

Life for me is anything but timeless though. The kids are growing fast and the days fly by. Good to get out and hike and make memories while we can.

This is a shot of my daughter Ashlyn from yesterday.

An Evening Bath

An Evening Bath

This is an older photo from last year that I thought I'd share with you all. My daughter taking a bubble bath in the evening, looking out our master bathroom window.

I've always enjoyed how peaceful she looks in this photo.

Strobist Info:
1Ds III, 24-70L @ f/11, ISO 100, 1/125. Elinchrom 500 BXRi into shoot through umbrella camera left. Fired a second frame with the flash off to get a clean background out the window with no reflection and layered them in post. Same camera settings/same time/ same composition for both frames.

Ashlyn Forest

Ashlyn Forest

Portrait of my daughter taken last night, stayed out a bit past bedtime. She's always fun to go shooting with, she enjoys exploring the woods and will wander off fearlessly into the unknown.

This one needs to be viewed large to see the effect.

Bit of a different technique used here. Stitched panorama for reduced DOF, aka The Brenizer Method. 26 images stitched together to create a wide field of view with a fast aperture 85mm lens, sort of like shooting on a larger film format. No significant editing in Photoshop, other than using Photomerge.

Shooting details: 1Ds III, 85mm f/1.2 L II @ f/1.4, ISO 400, 1/8 second (tripod), 3 stop ND filter, Elinchrom Quadra camera right into 39" deep octa w/ white deflector, no diffusers, minimum power on B channel, ambient light about 1 stop underexposed.

Wahclella

Wahclella

Finally got out shooting on Saturday. Took my son and hiked up to Wahclella falls in the rain. Got thoroughly soaked, but it was worth it. The two days leading up to this were both record rainfall days, so the side falls was out in full force.

Nice to be out shooting again.

Proxy Falls

Proxy Falls

Haven't posted anything in a long while, and certainly not any landscape stuff. Thought I'd dig this one out of the archives, as I've always liked it.

Canon 5D
17-40mm @ 20mm
1.3 seconds @ f/11
Not sure if I used a polarizer or not.
