Paeonia lactiflora 'White Swan'

This is a single flowered peony that I purchased in 1998 from Garden Sales. I always thought of peonies as large full flowers until Bill Turull introduced me to the single flowered cultivars.

They are so delicate looking and and due to the lighter weight, they won't flop over as easily as the full, double-flowered cultivars.

My husband and I visited Ogunquit, Maine to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary. This was a Memorial Day display we passed by several times as we walked back and forth from our inn. It brought tears to our eyes every time we looked at the posters of the soldiers who gave their life in Irag and Afghanistan.

After driving my mother home on Mother's Day, I decided to take a detour home. I passed by the Camp Yankee Trails for girl scouts and loved the emerging leaf color on the trees. It was well past sunset and this was taken hand held with a long exposure. It might not be the sharpest photo but it sure is a pretty sight for this New Englander after suffering through a very hard winter!
