Sullivan Madonna, Sunset

Sullivan Madonna, Sunset

Well carved from granite this monument is well preserved. Being exposed to the elements has helped preserve this one by washing away some of the polluants that have built up un the statue behind this one.

St.Francis, R.C.

St.Francis, R.C.

Hoboken is well known as the mile square city. In that area are five catholic churches. They are what was known as national churches, each founded by a different ethnic or regional group. Four of then were founded to serve different groups of the Italian-American community.
St. Francis was founded on May 5, 1888 to serve people mostly of Genoese extraction, who had been in this country only a short time, and for whom the language barrier was a genuine problem.

marble mourner

marble mourner

Two monuments of the same vintage, one marble and one granite. The elements and pollution have wrecked the material. Cleaning and surface care could have slowed this down but in this climate there is not much you can do.
