High School Senior - Stick and Rudder Flight School

High School Senior - Stick and Rudder Flight School

I wasn't aware that we'd have access to the hangar when I booked the shoot. I also didn't know that he worked there too. He's about to get his pilots license soon and wanted senior portraits with his trainer.

Strobist info: Ambient down 1 1/2 stops from flash. Sunpak 383 bare to camera right at f/5.6 @ 1/60s. Fired by sync cable. my only regret is not having a second flash with me to pop the background under the plane.

I'm VERY late to the game. I should have done these exercise a long time ago. Better late than never.

For Strobists: Lighting is a single Sunpak 383 strobe fired shot thru a 36" white umbrella at camera left at 45 degrees to my son and slightly above eye level. Edge of the umbrella is about 2ft from his cheek. I fired the off camera strobe with one on camera via an optical slave, but pointed away so that it does not contribute to the lighting in the scene. He is directly in between the umbrella and the wall behind the couch which is adding fill on camera right. I snuck this shot in during my son's favorite Disney show. =)

Saw this idea in a magazine, either FHM or Maxim...can't remember now.
For Strobists: 3 Sunpak 383's used. One about 12ft in front of me up about 8ft and slightly to camera left to illuminate me. Two more behind me and on either side, firing into silver umbrellas to illuminate the white seamless. A little spill is adding a little rim lighting on my sides. Fired by sync cables and optical slaves.

First attempt at a Chase Jarvis shot

From the Strobist blog:

Single Sunpak 383 to camera left fired into a white umbrella.
Fired by sync cord.

Not bad for a first attempt in a 10 minute set up job.
