Dutch 17th century polder windmill
The Wimmenumermolen polder mill is a windmill which grinds water from a polder. Water is pumped by a scoop rad or by a jack (propeller of Archimedes) from the polder. This type of mill is still working especially in the lower layer polder areas of West - and the Nothern part of Holland.
In de provincie Noord-Holland komt een bijzonder molentype voor: de
binnenkruier. Bij deze grote poldermolen wordt de kap met het
wiekenkruis niet vanaf de grond op de wind gezet (het zogenaamde
kruien), maar van binnenuit de kap. Binnenkruiers zijn ook relatief
grote molens, die met hun stoere verschijning het Noord-Hollandse
polderland een extra accent geven.
Eén van de oudste binnenkruiers is de Wimmenumermolen. De molen bemaalt de Wimmenummerpolder. Dit is een z.g.n.
aanwaspolder; land ten oosten van de Krommedijk die de grens vormde
tussen de hoger gelegen geestgronden en het moeras dat overging in de
Egmondermeer. De inrichting van de Wimmenummerpolder moeten we naar
alle waarschijnlijkheid plaatsen rond of iets voor de bedijking van de
Berger- en Egmondermeer (1565). We zien hieruit dat de nieuwe
Wimmenumermolen op 1 mei 1774 in bedrijf kwam. Deze ontdekking in het
archief van de Philisteinse polder is eveneens te danken aan
historicus Diederik Aten. Noteert u alvast in uw agenda: 1 mei 2024
250-jarig bestaan!
In 1951 werd de huidige molen buiten werking gesteld omdat toen een
elektrisch vijzelmaal in gebruik werd genomen (30 meter ten zuiden van
de molen). Er woonde toen een arbeidersgezin in de molen, dat kort
daarna vertrok. De molen kwam ongeveer anderhalf jaar leeg te staan.
Hierop werd in 1953 de molen van de polder gehuurd door de familie
Zwijnenberg uit Amsterdam. In 1955 volgde de aankoop van de molen. In
1976 nam Eric Zwijnenberg de molen over van zijn vader
P.Th.Zwijnenberg.
