High waves smash on the rugged coastline of Menorca

High waves hit the rugged North coast of Menorca. The scenery around the area is dramatic. The area around here is remote, miles away from the sandy beaches and large hotels. Thanks to this protection of the narrow mouth of the harbour to the sea, the 5 km of length of the bay and the 2 kms. of width, marine sports activities have a privileged place in Fornells. There in its calm waters you can practice windsurf, saling, kayak and diving. The wind is usually moderate and sufficient for surfers, divers will find plenty of life at the bottom of the sea and those on their kayaks will be delighted by the unspoiled coves and the wild beauty of the coast. In the winter this area is often thought of as a rather desolate area pounded by the island's famous tramontana wind. The tramontana wind is a classical name for a northern wind. A walk around the peninsula of Fornells is not difficult although the going can be hard in places and the pathways can be a little uneven and rocky. Good comfortable shoes, sun hat, sun cream, bathing costume, a picnic and a large bottle of water is all that's needed.
High smashing waves explodes at the rugged, rocky coastline of Northern Menorca - Spain. Dramatic 40 m high cliffs plunging here into the sea near the harbor of Fornells. There is no beach at this northern point of Fornells.
Menorca is een bijzonder mooi eiland met een geheel eigen cultuur en landschap. De Menorcanen zijn heel trots op hun eiland en als je met een huurauto over het eiland rondrijdt zul je dit ook zien en voelen. De vele kleine zandstrandjes met de azuurblauwe zee, waarvan sommige praktisch verlaten zijn, vormen een idyllisch karakter. Het heuvelachtige landschap met de typisch Menorcaanse stapelmuurtjes die weides en akkerlandjes omzoomen en de grillige kust met zijn talloze baaien en inhammen geven het eiland een woeste sfeer. De hoge rotsen aan het begin van de 5km lange inham van Fornells geven dit pittoreske dorpje een natuurlijke bescherming. De hoge golven slaan hier keihard op 90 meterhoge kliffen. Een spectaculair gezicht op dit noordelijk puntje van Menorca. Het wondermooi helder wit vissersdorpje Fornells ligt 2km verder in de inham in rustig vaarwater. Fornells heeft een prachtig haventje , maar nog niet heel erg toeristisch. Dit komt mede doordat Fornells zelf geen strand heeft. Wist u dat de Spaanse koning Juan Carlos altijd met zijn jacht in de haven van Fornells aanmeert? In Fornells kunt je naast de stoofschotel de beroemde langoustinensoep caldereta de llagosta proberen, die zo goed is, dat de koning hiervoor snel van Mallorca hiernaartoe zeilt.
