Neuschwanstein Castle (German: Schloß Neuschwanstein) is a 19th century Bavarian castle. Located in Germany, near Hohenschwangau and Füssen in southwest Bavaria, the castle was built by Ludwig II, King of Bavaria, as a retreat and as an homage to Richard Wagner, the King's inspiring muse. It is the most photographed building in Germany and is one of Germany's most popular tourist destinations.
Slot Neuschwanstein in Beieren is een kasteel in Hohenschwangau bij Füssen in de Allgäu, gebouwd (19e eeuw) in opdracht van (de later krankzinnig verklaarde) koning Ludwig of Lodewijk II van Beieren. Het is het beroemdste bouwwerk van Lodewijk II en een van de bekendste toeristische attracties van Beieren. Het kasteel is genoemd naar Schwan, een zwaan dus. Zwanen waren de lievelingsdieren van de koning; van zijn nicht Elisabeth kreeg hij een grote porseleinen zwaan cadeau die in het kasteel staat. Zes weken na zijn dood werd het kasteel geopend voor toeristen, en sindsdien is dit kasteel een Europese topattractie. Toeristen kunnen te voet naar boven of (zoals de koning) zich laten voeren. Tussen de bergen is wat hoger de bekende Marienbrücke gebouwd door koning Maximiliaan; vanaf dit bouwwerk heeft men een mooi zicht op het kasteel.

I really like this picture. I was just there a few weeks ago. I tried getting a good picture of the castle from the bridge but the back side was under construction. oh well.

Went to this Castle when I was about 4 or 5. I had lived in Mannheim which is not too far away from this in 1988 to 1992. One of my earliest memories was of my family and I inside the Castle. I have a figure of this at my place, and also have a piece of the Berlin Wall which came down in 1989 when I was 3.
