Rolling Along.

I think this is a female Lilac-breasted Roller though I'm not really sure. Up in a tree and not nearly as close as " Pretty Boy " was. PLEASE NOTE * Been informed that this is a Rufous-crowned Roller.

      Hi PT,
No, not a female C. caudatus. Family Coraciidae (Rollers) do not show sexual dimorphism and so usually sexed on morphometrics in the hand. This is Rufous-crowned Roller (Coracias naevius).

Thank you VERY much for the time to look and comment I really do appreciate it. I wish that I understood all of what you said.
As for the background it's just a bald African sky though I'm glad you
      like it.

Sorry Vearl, I don't mean to be a pedant, I am just used to vetting bird photos and forget sometimes to simplify. To translate - sexual dimorphism is when the two sexes of a bird species look different, so much so that you can sex them by the external appearance. The Rollers, as a group, don't have it - the sexes are similar, and so they are usually sexed only by measuring them once mist-netted (captured for biological surveys, etc.). Morphometrics is just a fancy word for saying taking their measurements.

Hi Steve. I think that I did a poor job of stating my case with you. Let me say that I truly respect and admire those of you that have the education and knowledge to know these thing. In my case that's not me. I'm just trying to get along in the world and trying to keep my head down. If you keep looking at my pictures you will probably find a lot of errors in the future. I'm good at making them but I try VERY HARD to at least be honest about them. That is why I said in my description I THINK. If you find more errors (and I'm sure you will)
I will greatly appreciate it if you let me know so that I can correct them and be as correct as I can be while also learning something my self.
      With my VERY BEST.

      Vearl,
Absolutely no problem. As we should say "Semper fidelis" - me from 70-74, MOS in Avionics from NAS Jax and mostly at El Toro.

Semper Fi Steve. Besides my active duty time I retired out of the reserve as a CWO-2. MOS-2020 Weapons Repair Officer.
In reference to my comments above I'm not stupid just not well educated. Will be looking forward to hearing from you.
