On the edge
I cut my foot on the coral gettting this shot. I was bleeding but kept on shooting because I didn't want to lose the light. How's that for dedication? My husband think I'm nuts.
Oh, and those rocks are coral, and they really are that color. And when it's really rough, the water blows up through the holes in the edges of the color and can shoot up as high as 50 ft. I need a good tropical storm to really get the shot :)
Oh, I should say, critique is very much welcome and appreciated. I just started taking these, so any insights you can offer would be great.

Ohh you are so sweet! I thought that I would eventually try to find a restaurant or a local store to showcase them in, but I think I need a larger collection of them.

wonderful picture Kat,trouble with the weather you want though is this shot would be very difficult to take.would be very slippy and hard to keep the lens from getting wet.sure you'll get round those problems though.
Kat Braman | www.katbraman.com (52 months ago | reply)
Yeah, I know. I'll probably need to get a rain jacket for my camera. It might be good the day after the storm so that the ocean is still really rough but not raining.

Technical: ( 9/10)
( Excellent long exposure, although a graduated ND filter would really make that sky pop even more. The DoF is great. Very sharp coral combined with the silky water makes the choice of a long exposure perfect for this scene.)
Composition: (10/10)
(I love the way the coral leads you right through to the horizon, good use of rule of thirds in placing the tighter curve leading into the straighter line of the coral which in turn draws the eye through to the horizon, I like the litle outcrop of land on the horizon too. )
Impact: (9/10)
(Huge impact, the colours as well as the sharp versus smooth make this a beautiful shot, a GND would make this a 10 for me. Love it!)
Commercial Viability: (8/10)
(Definitely fine art and also travel brochures)

Technical: 9.5/10
Everything here is brilliantly executed. I think a Grad ND filter may have added something, but I feel silly saying that because this shot is superb.
Composition: 10/10
I think you got just the right amount of foreground and the water is lovely.
Impact: 10/10
It's striking. I wish I had more criticisms and input, but it really is just a wonderfully executed shot with so many pleasing colors. I think most people would agree.
Commercial Viability:8/10
As beautiful a shot as it is, there are only so many uses for it, mostly travel.
Grade A superb shot, very inspirational.9.5/10 as seen in

Technical: 10/10I believe you captured the light perfectly. Any other filtering or jumping up the contrast would have detracted from the mystical feel of this shot.
Composition: 9/10your arrangement of your elements is pleasing and strong with the vertical line (shore) situated just about perfectly.
Impact:10/10What a stunning shot. The colors are so commanding . The coral is indeed spikey, but the soft water balances it so well.
Commercial Viability: 8/10I think any travel place would snap this up in an instant.
Grade Calming and fascinating. 9.25/10 as seen in
