Pygmy owl with its' prey (blue tit)

Pygmy owl with its' prey (blue tit)

Not exactly everyday moment that just happened; while drinking coffee, spotted "some dark bird figure flying fast to our bird feeding site". Sipping coffee, checking through window what is it, expecting nothing unusual.

A small owl? No way? Yes? Looks like pygmy owl and did it just flew in and catch some tit from the feeding place? No ... yes!? Damn, gotta grab my cam! (rushing to my camera bag, and not with usual speed as I have right arm wrapped up in white package currently - blame it on tenosynovitis)

Somehow I managed to get few fast snapshots as the owl flew to nearby tree with its' prey. It was already getting dark, so I had to use built-in flash, certainly no time for external flash. This pic turned out best.

Only after I saw these pics on screen I identified the prey being a blue tit. Pity for the blue tit but good lunch and way to survive for pygmy owl. Also; could a predator look more cute?

... they came from beyond time and ice.

(this is a combination of 4 different pictures taken with mobile phone; picture of figures dates back to late Autumn 2011, while the architectural & snow shots were taken today)

Shot series of fireworks pics as year changed, only had monopod in use. Some shots turned out pretty good anyway. Happy 2012 !

Fire in the sky

Fire in the sky

Yesterday the sky was truly unbelievable sight when I walked home from work. It was all so bright orange'ish red with this sunset that the mobile phone's cam couldn't handle it any better than this (best pic out of what I took). Definitely a case for real camera, but as I didn't have it with me ...

This pic was slightly post'processed in Picnik (color tones, contrast, some orton effect thrown in).
