Red Eyes in Paradise

This I thought of calling the journey of a fearless warrior. I think I've mentioned in the past I was never much a bug person. Well these Cicadas infiltrated my world as a young girl in immense numbers. I pretty much did not venture outdoors at all, the whole summer, that year. (My elder sister would terrorize me with them-(Deb you would be proud of my bravery)

Spring forward a little over 4 decades and I have faced my fears and walked very close to meet these harmless creatures. They are quite beautiful.

These are River Forest cicadas. Where I live in Oak Park we are nuclear free and cicada free. (the cicada free part is a little worrisome, the nuclear free is a blessing)

It's incredible the amount of noise they make. Sometimes you find old casings after molting and they are quite beautiful.

Thanks you for the visits redcipolla, Angele and sikaa. Redcipolla I have to agree with you the casings are quite amazing in detail. This guy started walking right as I clicked the shutter but I really liked the play of insect and environment.
