      Interesting image, hideous message.

"Abortion ignores the cause and treats the symptom: instead of suggesting a way out of the isolation mothers face, it offers a way out of motherhood." --Nancy Randolph Pearcy

"When we consider that women are treated as property, it is degrading to women that we should treat our children as property to be disposed of as we see fit." Elizabeth Cady Stanton, feminist, letter to Julia Ward Howe, October 16, 1873

"Abortion is the ultimate exploitation of women." -- Alice Paul

"It is a great poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish." - Mother Theresa of Calcutta

"Guilty? Yes. No matter what the motive, love of ease, or a desire to save from suffering the unborn innocent, the woman is awfully guilty who commits the deed. It will burden her conscience in life, it will burden her soul in death; But oh, thrice guilty is he who drove her to the desperation which impelled her to the crime!" -- Susan B. Anthony, feminist

"If life is not a continuum, from conception to natural death, then all of us are potential victims if we fall out of favor with a ruling elite."
      -- Cal Thomas

"At the heart of the controversy in these cases are those recurring pregnancies that pose no danger whatever to the life or health of the mother but are nevertheless unwanted for any one or more of a variety of reasons - convenience, family planning, economics, dislike of children, embarrassment of illegitimacy, etc. I find nothing in the language or history of the Constitution to support the Court's judgment. The Court simply fashions and announces a new constitutional right for pregnant mothers and, with scarcely any reason or authority for its action, invests that right with sufficient substance to override most existing state abortion statutes. As an exercise of raw judicial power, the Court perhaps has authority to do what it does today; but, in my view, its judgment is an improvident and extravagant exercise of the power of judicial review." -- Justice Byron White, dissenting opinion in Roe v. Wade, The U.S. Supreme Court (January, 1973)

Why would you use this space to promote your personal agenda?

I find your comments to be bilious and offensive. And rude. Very rude.

      Am I naive or something?

When I saw this image and read the message, I didn't connect it with abortion at all.

The connection I made was about choosing partners and choosing to produce a child ie deciding to have a child together.

If I'm naive, then i'm glad I am. I don't like the idea of abortion but I don't wish to push any aspect of pro or con in other people's faces.

No maybe I'm not naive - maybe I just saw the positive in the image and marknicodema saw the negative.

Anyway It's a fine image and very well executed.

I love it. I love the message. I'm glad to have a choice, and I'm sorry that you are recieving so many negative comments for a beautiful piece.

It's very simple, but simplicity gets the message across much better. You focus on the idea instead of the setting.

    18. Monty Leman (65 months ago | reply)

I like the picture - the message, the composition - but I have one technical suggestion to make: I think it would be better if the flash had been further from the lens axis. The hard black shadow around the faces is a little jarring, IMHO.

VERY powerful image. I love the message and the way it is conveyed.

To the naysayers: If you don't like it, fine, just don't degrade it.

To be honest, I'm not for abortion at all, but I think that this image is absolutely gorgeous. You're taking a stand on something you believe and no matter what that something is, it's beautiful you're doing it. You expressed your opinion in an amazing way. Great job! :)

    28. ddbfrog (54 months ago | reply)

Just saw this--& I'd like to say that advocating choice doesn't automatically mean you advocate abortion--there is such a thing as birth control. I love the image & the message.

    31. lofashofa (54 months ago | reply)

this is a disgusting message...you do realize you're advocating for murder?

    32. Elza Drachen (53 months ago | reply)

Regardless of the message, the artist wanted to convey this is a lovely piece. We are all here to view art, not debate whether abortion is right or wrong. It is foolish to even argue abortion here (you people know who you are). If you do not enjoy the photo keep it moving. Leave constructive criticism, not your feelings.

Advocating choice is never advocating murder. I wish that people have the choice to murder or not murder, to steal or not steal, to think or not think, to believe or not believe, but i do not agree with every choice made by every person. Its the act of choice that i believe in and i just hope that they are able to make the better (or best) choice.

      About the picture:

I like the fading out of the image. How old is the guy? He looks maybe 15? Also, the colouration of the stomach of the pregnant woman seems a little different than the rest of her body which makes it look like its fake. As a criticism i think the guy''s head is too turned too much, as the light really highlights his strong nose and i find it attention grabbing. Guess there really isnt much you could have done about that heh. Aside from that i like the image and it clearly sparks a lot of controversy.

You are showing that a picture can say even more than 1000 words. An important message in a creative and great manner!

    37. PhotoJennyk [deleted] (52 months ago | reply)

i seem to be way off in my initial interpretation of this. i thought it was VERY powerful that this was written on his back. i believed it to be about the father having a say in the matter of the child. i guess i thought it ran against the whole saying of "her body, her choice". just thought i'd put that out there.

    38. bleeding_spiders (51 months ago | reply)

I think it means different things to different people. If you think positively you realize that the image is powerful and find your own interpretation. If you are negative and wrapped up in constant argument then you will see something else. We can guess what the photographer meant but there is ALWAYS a chance that we are wrong no matter how "obvious" the meaning seems. I won't put my opinion on abortion but I will say that my interpretation of the message is both beautiful and powerful. She is beautiful in pregnancy. Congratulations to all parties involved and I do agree with JDWnyc. The shadow is a bit unsettling but overall good job as far as I'm concerned.
