The Sentinel

The Sentinel

My first image for a while. I decided to go out and have a walk amongst all the snow we've been having and my best image that I took ended up having no snow in it at all!

Assignment: pca 107 for the Photography Critique Assignments Group
Date: May 23-June 6th, 2010
Image tag: pca107
From: Ryanbot (stephanie)

Mission:
With summer around the corner I thought it might be fun to create
a photograph of our own hometown, state, or city that would inspire
others to come for a visit. It can be something iconic about your
area or just a beautiful scene. The point is for someone to look
at the photograph and think " what a beautiful place to visit".
You can create an actual postcard or a wall worthy image to
hang over the fireplace. The only rule for this assignment is
that the photograph/photographs must be take between May 23-June6. Who knows maybe we will inspire some flickr meet-ups!!
No examples just your imaginations.

WIT
I've been wanting to get the sunrise along the Northumberland Coast for some time. The Northumberland Coast is an area along the North East of England and I feel is one of the most picturesque places in the country. The other day I purchased some ND Grad filters and this seemed to give me the motivation to get out in time. It was a 3.30am start which was a slight shock to the system but it was worth it.
PP - HDR created in photomatix and taken into Photoshop. Color balance to remove some orange pink from the rocks, slight sharpening, and curves. Little bit of burning to bring out more detail in the lighthouse area. I was surprised how little processing I needed to do, thanks to the filters the balance in the shot was better.

Aperture: f/13.0
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO Speed: 100
HDR made from 6 exposures.
