Surprise view over Derwent

Surprise view over Derwent

Nikon D700, 17-35mm polariser, 0.6ND grad. Tripod. Probably the last shot of the trip. Its a popular location thats been done thousands of times before. No reason for me not to have a go though.

Derwent boats dawn

Derwent boats dawn

Nikon D700, 17-35mm Nikkor. Polariser. 0.6ND grad. Tripod.

Another of those boat shots that I seem to have gotten fond of recently.. No idea why.
Taken early, a short while after the first of these I have uploaded, on the shore of Derwent water at Keswick.
Whilst here, wating for the sun to rise above the fells, we were joined by 6 other early risers with cameras who saw what we doing and wandered off after a brief chat, probably to find something more interesting to shoot. If that was you, nice to meet you.
Dawn is such a lovely time of the day.

Buttermere tree

Buttermere tree

Nikon D700, 17-35 mm Nikkor, polariser. Tripod.

The elusive tree. Surrounded by the most rabid midges going. But at least there are no cats this time.

Another early start this time to Buttermere for a shot I had had in mind for some time. I didn't expect the mist over the water that greeted us and was pleased to find the conveniently provided lump of tree. All good so far. I was less pleased with the rather cute cat that appeared from no where and decided the best place to sit was slap bang in the middle of my composition! There ensued the amusing sight of me picking said cat up, walking back to the camera and firing the shutter before carefully placing cat on the ground and checking the camera lcd. Then deciding I wanted another shot and going to collect the cat again.
Cat 27 Andy nil. It amused Fen anyway.

Ullswater Dawn

Ullswater Dawn

Nikon D700, 17-35mm Nikkor. Polariser, 0.6 and 0.3 ND grad. Tripod.
An early start again to a location we have previously visited a number of years ago.
Such was the contrast between the light and dark areas of the scene and not being a fan of that dark art called HDR, I chose to shoot it as a silhouette and deliberately composed it to be a square format. I had to wade out to get the framing I wanted.
Just in case you were interested, the water was freezing cold!
