I have always been a fan of the late Janis Joplin - I woke up to her singing "Get It While You Can" on my alarm-radio. She has been on my mind all morning. So, I thought I'd pay tribute to her in my own way - on flickr.

absolutely amazing singer, might not have made it in today's music world, with all the emphasis on appearance.

Oh, that's scary ... I was just thinking about her and listening to "Take a Little Piece of My Heart" on the way in to work ... thanks for posting this!

Yes Tony! What a gifted, talented and amazing musician she was. Like so many very artistic people, so terribly unhappy at times...
I agree with marilyn above - the music world today doesn't just emphasise appearance, but seems to want very young women who have weak, adolescent-like voices. Janis was a very real woman with strong emotions.
I do like this picture so much. I am making it a "Fave". x

I think she's beautiful there! Whenever I get down or discouraged I think "you know what you gotta do baby, you gotta try harder man..."

I've always loved the late, the great JJ. Instead of lullabies, my mom sang Janis Joplin songs to me when I was a baby. And Jan I totally agree with what you say about female singers nowadays. There is no grit anymore.

In my opinion Mariah Carey couldn't begin to compare to her. Nor anyone else today for that matter.
