Null means "empty", usually.
It is often what is returned on a search of a database or the like when it can't find what's been requested.
I wonder if your software is adding meta data without there being any real data in the tag? I know when I use LR, it'll add the meta data I add to my photos when I import them from the card, etc. When I process them and post them on here, it'll add the meta info as a Flickr tag if I don't remove it.
You can always delete it, right? : )

Are you using iPhoto to download/upload your photos? Does the (null) keyword show up there? If you download the pic back out of flickr and open it in Preview, does it show (null) as a keyword in the metadata?
