day 141: it's still all about teeth.
no joy for the phobia clinic, so i tried to get an appointment with an NHS dentist in my area. The first date I can get is May 9th.
I am going to the Guy's Hospital walk-in clinic on Monday, and just hope the wait isn't too long and that they will help me. I can't spend the next month on bloody drugs.

Interesting shot!
I hate to see any dentist.

Really dramatic. I'm in dentist avoidance mode as well. Sad, really, that so many people feel that way.

That is an insane wait. Do NHS dentists here not do emergency appointments? I'm consistently amazed at the difference in the NHS in Scotland and England

Apparently with the latest NHS reforms dentists are only allowed to do a certain amount of NHS work, so once appointments are filled, they're filled. No emergencies. Or so I'm told.

@estherase: See, I was originally going to say, "EEEEK! Please don't eat me, Giant Alice! AHHHH!" Except you're in pain, so instead I'll say, "Hope you get your teeth fixed up soon, and they give you good pills for the recovery." :-)
... Seen in my contacts' photos. *

Barts/Royal London provide dental emergency cover in your manor: linky.
Worth giving NHS Direct a call and explaining that over-the-counter medication isn't working (as this seems to be the criterion for your situation being officially deemed urgent). They may be able to refer you to a local NHS dentist who can help.
In any case, though, most of the emergency dental services are planning to move to a telephone triage scheme (so you'll need an NHS Direct referral to be seen). I don't think any have actually implemented this yet, but a quick call to them would be worthwhile just in case...
NHS Direct are generally very helpful and often seem to know about obscure resources. I once called feeling a bit peaky at 2 am on a Bank Holiday weekend. They got me an appointment for an hour later with an OOH GP scheme a mile from my house that I'd never ever heard of...
Take care.

I've only heard bad things about the clinic at the London: may or may not be true, but as an already nervous patient I'm not prepared to go there. On the other hand, I've heard only good of the walk-in clinic at Guys. I've called, and it's still there, so that's where I'm heading on Monday. Wish me luck and not too long a wait for me to get panicked in.
