I'm a bit bothered that the gaps are not in the middle. A shot like this needs to have that extra level of exactness. Though this might add a little tension. Otherwise the technique is good, it's perfectly in focus and the lighting is just great.
On the level of originality - it's a neat abstract, one does not find that often, but it is (no pun intended, I guess) just to sterile for my taste.

It's really good. Where's the centre? The centre is really important. Oh look, the con said it all for me.

I agree totally with the con, except I like the sterility in this one.

      well ok.

      technique - 5

      originality - 10

    26. StefZ (84 months ago | reply)

A tricky one to rate. A well executed photograph of a unusual view.

But that robotic coolness that some people will like turns me off. There's no humanity, no story to this picture. It lacks soul. I appreciate that it's not supposed to have any soul but a picture that inspires no other emotion than 'oh, that's pretty' can't get the highest marks in my world

      technique - 7
      orginility/ aesthetics/ humanity - 5

    27. torabisu (84 months ago | reply)

I don't think there needs to be some form of human element to make a photo great.. A good abstract is still good.

I kinda like feeling that this is part of some futuristic device. The centering as mentioned is a bit of a distraction, but it's not WAY off.

      T6 + Z8 = 14

    28. StefZ (84 months ago | reply)

@torabisu: I admit this is a personal thing but, for me, humanity is the most important thing in photography. That doesn't mean it has to be an obvious element. If an abstract inspires a sense of wonder or some other strong emotion in the viewer I'd count that as 'humanity'. But, as I said, that's a personal opinion. As it happens, this picture does inspire a *moderate* sense of wonder which is why I gave it what I believe to be a relatively good rating.

    29. dooda (84 months ago | reply)

For me humanity is the most difficult thing, it's difficult to grapple and constantly morphs when I engage it. Doesn't necessarily make great photographs, but when they are, I'm more impressed.

I love how the pattern slowly changes and morphs from the center out. Symmetry seems good. The translucence and colour really help the zing. BTW, I love this word. I started throwing it around in DM recently, so glad to be using it here.

    30. SteveFE (84 months ago | reply)

Sorry, it leaves me utterly cold and uninterested.

T6—well enough exposed etc but the comp should really be dead-bang symmetrical for this kind of thing, not just nearly there.

Z1—like I said, leaves me cold. Once I'm done reviewing it I'll have no need ever to look at it again.

    31. Graham McVicker (84 months ago | reply)

I'm using the new 0-5 scale.

I think that your technique is pretty good. I don't have any quibbles about how you've taken the shot, but on the other hand, I don't think it was really technically challenging or original so I'll give you a 4/5.

There's some OK zing as well. The colours and shapes are austere and simple, and I like the weird radiating out effect. It would make a great desktop background. Still it's not something I want to come back to, time and time again. I give you a 3.5 for zing.
