Winter 2009 From Our Kitchen Window

Winter 2009 From Our Kitchen Window

We had over 6 feet of snow. Two storms that both exceeded 30". One small one on Jan 31 and a huge one on Feb 6.

This year it has been in the 50s and 60s almost all winter. A few cold days. We are averaging at least 10 degrees above normal.

We have had one 1" snowfall so far. Guess I'd like to see a little snow at least.

Resilience!

Resilience!

This is the same Hellebore that was covered in ice and snow in my photo of the other day. Today it was nearly 60 F here and sunny. Strange weather!

Frozen Beauty

Frozen Beauty

Wintery mix is how the weatherman predicted what we got last night. Maybe an inch of snow with frozen rain and sleet on top. It had to happen sooner or later.

I went out to put out birdseed for the ground feeders including a huge flock of Juncos.

I'm sure the plants will recover and bloom again.

Can This Be January???

Can This Be January???

The weather continues to be unseasonable warm. Heavy rains this morning followed by sunshine-high in the 60s.

Helleborus "Pink Frost" in my fern garden. The native version is also blooming.

Almost There...

Almost There...

Yesterday was 60F and today 40F but this Hellebore thinks it's spring. The weather is so weird I don't know what to expect. The garden plants don't seem to know what season it is.....
