I've heard that "the best tripod is the one you actually carry with you". Well, not neccessarily, I'd have to say. While Gitzo's 105 with the flimsy ball head I got with it was fine for travel photography with my lots-of-empty-space-surrounded-by-light-plastic analog SLR (and lenses I used with it), it definitely isn't stable enough for macro or long telephoto work with my current gear. In those cases, higher ISO becomes a better "tripod".

@ all who are wondering what this is: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physalis_alkekengi should be helpful.

@ Sarah Schloo: I actually have a more usable tripod, but it's much larger and heavier (about 3.5kg / 7lb), which is why I leave it at home most of the time. Silly, isn't it?
As for the setup: No, I didn't use a softbox; I don't have one. I put the fruit on a porcelain plate, and placed that on a window-sill on a rainy afternoon.

Ooo thanks for the info! I like your thrifty style, I have a softbox but it's twice the size that I am, so I am going to try your plate idea from now on! (and we get plenty of rainy afternoons in London)
