Why is Art Healing?

We ourselves are an expression of creative energy; the energy of creation itself. It is easy to recognize the word creation and creativity are very similar. I believe that when people create Art they are tuning into the creative power of the universe; and sometimes are lucky enough to bring back something that a viewer can relate to in a direct way. Art is healing because it allows the viewer and easy way to expand themselves; to release the stresses that are interfering with their natural perception. Thus, Art provides a means by which people can return (however unconscious it may be) to their essential selves; basically beings of love and beauty. We project this feeling onto the “Art”, though its origin is within ourselves. Such moments of expanded remembrance are very healing indeed.

Artist Statement

Born with webbed toes, I have always been at home in the Water! In 2006 I felt very drawn to the Light Beams dancing through the Sacred waters of Barton Springs, and I wondered what would happen if I tried to capture their expression on film. That started a long adventure of creative listening that I am still on today. Along the way, I created a ‘Light Card” mediation deck with my images and handed them out individually to over 2000 people. The positive feedback was surprising. Very surprising! We all, essentially are mostly made up of water and light. I believe people see themselves in my work. A very deep aspect of themselves. These images seem to create a kind of resonance harmony in the consciousness of the viewer; with, perhaps, the highest aspect of themselves. The very nature of this kind of ‘inner connection’ is peace, healing, and an invitation for well-being. I created www.waterlighthealing.com to expand the reach of these healing images.

Brian has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Radio-Television-Film from University of Texas at Austin, and has worked as a key cameraman and editor for documentaries shot in Russia, Yugoslavia, and India. His most exciting body of work was born in 2006 when an experiment with underwater photography; capturing the dance of light beams on film, at the sacred waters of Barton Springs Austin Texas; emerged as a unique expression of natural beauty that seem to transmit powerful healing energy. Inspired by the beauty and power of these Underwater Light images, he set up “WaterLight Healing”. This is a project of service, with a dedicated mission to bring the peace and healing of underwater light, to care and healthcare facilities: serving those that need it most.
