I took a whole bunch of pictures for Chinese New Year celebrations a month ago but I've only just found time to go through them. This is a ceremonial drum with a sword attached. Not quite sure what the purpose is (of the sword, I mean), but it looks impressive.

Watching the crowd was just as interesting as watching the lion dances.

Plenty of little kids sitting on shoulders - and they all had their hands firmly over their ears to help block out the fire crackers. I'm not sure that they enjoy it really. Animal hats seemed to be in vogue this year.

Snow is a bit of a novelty this year (although I gather we have some forecast for the weekend). This is from a few weeks ago. I went out for a walk to enjoy the white stuff when along comes a lady in a red coat and carrying a red umbrella. How photogenic is that?

I looked out of the window the other day and was surprised to see a large flotilla of Canada geese (about a hundred birds) swimming out in the bay. I'm impressed that they can deal with the salt water. Anyway, I grabbed the camera and followed them. They were quite a way out to sea, but as the sun set, most of them took off and flew over my head to where ever they were going to spend the night. A few of them came ashore and posed for pictures.
