Monofilament Kills

Monofilament Kills

The excellent bird photography opportunities I experienced last week in Florida were, unfortunately, dampened by the sight of this double crested cormorant, hanging dead on the fishing line he got tangled up in as he went about making his living by catching fish in Lake Hancock. I'm sure the fisherman who left his line behind didn't mean to kill a bird with it, but that's what happened. Maybe this reminder will encourage someone else to pick up their discarded monofilament. Dammit!

He was a beauty, and very cooperative (note how "cooper" is the first two syllables of "cooperative;" that's how I know he's a Coopers and not a sharpie...), let me get very close and keep adjusting exposure in the difficult backlit situation.
