This is my first earnest attempt at a disintegration effect without using additional backgrounds, textures or anything except a few splatter brushes and a little intuition. I'm not entirely happy with it, mostly because I don't feel like it's better than the other techniques I've used in the past -- but I really think that if I can refine this technique, it will be better than what I already know how to do.
I'm going to put an additional shot in the comments for comparison. The shot is "Atomized," from day 21/365. Even though they're completely different techniques (and I'm clearly better at one than the other), I'd love to hear your feedback on which technique you like more or how to refine either.
