Honor Roll- Marietta Ohio
The State of Ohio ranks fifth in our Nation for the number of Officers killed in the line of duty.
The Honor Roll- A memorial dedicated to those peace officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, erected at the corner of 3rd and Putnam Streets, Marietta Ohio.
Harrison L. Boyd -Marietta Police Department- Killed by gunfire 1-11-25. Patrolman Boyd was shot and killed when he interrupted two men burglarizing a grocery store. Patrolman Boyd engaged the two men in a shootout but his service weapon jammed. He was mortally wounded by the suspects' gunfire.
Both men were arrested and sent to prison. One was paroled December 6, 1936. On September 3, 1937, he was killed in a gun battle with police in Clark County, Ohio, in which Patrolman Martin P. Randolph of the Springfield, Ohio Police Department and Chief Deputy Sheriff Edward Furry of the Clark County Sheriff's Office were also killed.
Charley Ross- Deputy Sheriff Washington County- Killed by gunfire 10-14-47. Deputy Ross was shot and mortally wounded when he and another deputy responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence in Little Hocking. When Deputy Ross knocked on the front door a man opened it and shot him. The other deputy took him to the hospital where he died the next day. The suspect surrendered to the sheriff the next day and was charged with murder.
Ray R. Joe Clark- Lieutenant Washington County Sheriff's Office- Killed by gunfire 2-7-81. Lieutenant Clark was shot and killed by an unknown suspect in an assassination while standing inside his residence. The murder is believed to have been carried out as the result of Lieutenant Clark's police work and remains unsolved.
Charles G. Scott Jr.- Marietta Police Department- Suffered a massive coronary while on duty- 1-26-89
Rodney K. Kinsey- Deputy Sheriff Washington County- Killed by gunfire
4-17-90. Deputy Kinzy was shot and killed when he responded to a shootout in Noble County, Ohio. He was shot as he attempted to warn other officers to seek cover. The suspect was killed by return gunfire.
