154/365: dame's rocket

Wild dame's rocket is in bloom right now. It's one of my favorite wild flowers to look at, despite being among the invasive species in the area. It's actually prohibited in Massachusetts, the border of which is just a few miles from here.

(This would have worked as orchid for the sixty-four colors group -- so many orchid choices!)

I've never heard that name for it before. Much prettier than phlox! (And yes, I love it too. I wish our yard had more of it.)

    5. SuperDewa (25 months ago | reply)

      Thank you!

Phlox is actually different. It has five petals and comes out later in the year. A lot of people confuse the two (I confuse them myself so I made sure to look this up before posting).

Great photo. You should submit this for Sixty-Four Colors and DailyShoot. Both are purple/orchid.

    15. SuperDewa (25 months ago | reply)

      Thank you!

too late for sixty-four colors (already submitted one and they're on to blue-green as of today), and too early for DailyShoot, as this was yesterday's 365, but thank you for the suggestions!

what a great name for a flower! very beautiful image and you're right, you'd have been spot-on for orchid!

the weathered green wood makes a wonderful backdrop for these tender little blossoms.
