Marc's mandala collage portrait

Marc's mandala collage portrait

Photo collage created in Photoshop. 24" diameter. See www.innervisionportrait.com.

In the center is Marc, a part of the sacred geometry of the Flower of Life. He is encircled by a ring of crystals – reminders of the crystals he sells and also symbols of the clarity, beauty, magic, and power within him. The tiny bull head is a playful nod to his (and Kaitlin’s) Taurus nature.

Circling the center is a ring of sunflowers (Marc’s favorite flower) and Marc’s dog Lyra, who was his closest companion for many years -- his family -- and who is growing old. She will always be in his heart.

Surrounding that inner ring is Marc’s expanded family now: Lyra, Kaitlin, Logan, and Kaitlin’s dog. A lotus flower blooms out of Marc and Kaitlin’s heads, symbolizing both Marc’s interest in Buddhism and also the power of Marc and Kaitlin’s relationship to transform the suffering of the past into enlightenment and love.

The lotus flower turns into an image of Marc, Kaitlin and Logan in a garden – the beautiful garden of their relationship, where they all help each other grow and love flourishes.

The outer rings are made up of vast fields of sunflowers (abundance of happiness and joy) and sunny skies, reminders of the way Marc cheers up Kaitlin by singing “you are the sunshine of my life” whenever she is stressed or down. He is the truly sunshine of her life – he makes her happy when skies are grey, whether the grey skies are outside or inside. Celtic knots complete the pattern, bows to Marc’s Irish heritage.

Around the outer rim of the portrait mandala is Kaitlin’s blessing for Marc:

May your hands always be busy, may your feet always be swift;
May you have a foundation when the winds of change shift.
May your heart always be joyful, may your song always be sung;
May you stay forever young.

This collage is Kaitlin’s gift for Marc, a reminder of all he is for her and a celebration of the love, beauty, and magic they create together.

Possibility snapshot of J., age 8

Possibility snapshot of J., age 8

Colored pencil, archival ink, and gold pen on drawing paper, 6" x 8". "Possibility snapshots" are done every year or two to record a child's inner as well as outer development. See www.innervisionportraits.com.

J. stands in front of an exciting background scene from his imagination – it shows him in a pirate ship, and also an underwater ship that is coming after the pirate ship.

The yellow medallion at the top holds his dad, who's serving in Iraq; J. wanted his dad in the picture, and it’s clear he admires his dad and misses him.

The lower left blue medallion shows J. playing with his legos. He loves playing with legos because he “feels like a god to the little people” when he makes a building or ship for them, and then – god-like-- he can destroy it and build something else. He wants to be an architect when he grows up...

The purple medallion shows a magic broomstick and wand from Harry Potter. J. likes wizards and Harry Potter and books – all symbols of power, and the power of the imagination.

The words that frame the picture are J’s possibilities at age 8: the qualities he embodies when he’s being his best self. They are also what he can make available to himself and others at any time -- the light in him that wants to shine.
