First example of Seurat Painting Photo
I know people (esp. Friends of Riverfront) will be anxious to see the results of this afternoon's photo-op so here goes...
A Beloit Daily News article reporting on the event itself appeared in the Monday, July 3rd edition: Art is alive along river
I shot about 100 frames and I'm sure others have many more. This is the first one that "grabbed me" as far as "hitting the mark" goes. I see now where we missplaced people in the frame, but that's expected with such a large group. The weather cooperated beautifully with one glaring exception... the wind was ferocious... which kept things cool but shredded at least two umbrellas.
Oh well... there's more where this came from. I hope other photos from other photographers will appear online soon. I can't wait to see what John Spates and Jim Simonson took.

Hey Mark ... OUTSTANDING! This is one of those cultural events that will eventually make its way into the consciousness of the community. Good-on-Ya for making it happen!

Thanks folks!
My son was working at Walgreens' photo lab yesterday and processed film from three people immediately after the shoot. He was probably the first person to get a good look at the results. Don't ya just love this small city living?

Thanks. Nope... we used a turtle... which is a common Beloit symbol.

My first reaction was 'wow, that's pretty close'. But as wih everything, including art, there is the spirit and the letter. Your replication has copied the letter, but not the spirit of Seurat's masterpiece.

Sour grapes for not thinking of it first! That's what I say to anyone who tries to rain on this parade. Bravo! As an Art Historian(not the important capital letters) I could, given time, illuminate philistines on the long and grand tradition of borrowing from old masters, but I digress.
This is a fun and cool idea. The photo seems a bit dark, but maybe you can clean that up. I'd like to see a photoshop job that emulates the pointilism of Seurat.
