I like the mood, although I think it is too dark and contrasty...there is no detail in the shadows, the blacks are "blobby", and you can see the dodging that you did on the face of the person in the background.

Photo gives a nice atmosphere. I think it's too contrasting. The darkness and the contract belong somehow to the feeling of the shopt, but the man in the black is a little bit disturbing too me(cause of his light face and also cause his clothes don't contrast with the background.

The other guy is a distraction. Also, there doesn't seem to be much composition in this -- it seems to me like you're just saying, "Look how fake those hardcore kids are."
Great camera, isn't it?

I like the wide open space because they seem isolated. I agree the blacks are crushed. I'm trying to figure out if you are capturing at a lower resolution. Textures seems like the most intersting thing here and it doesn't seem that crisp. I'd be looking for a wider depth of field and capturing at your highest resolution. (and I do think lo res is fine in some situations, just not this one)

i work with "troubled teens" and love the shot here. however, i agree but don't have much to add to the tech critiques above.

They don't seem so "troubled" to me.
The photo does communicate a lot though. I guess the way you made it, isolated them, and the deep blacks, makes it seem as though they are "troubled" and alienated. That feeling comes through very well.
