Male "Bronze Lake Jumper" Jumping Spider - (Eris militaris )

    Full frame.

This was quite a friendly jumper and was fairly easy to photograph. I ended up taking over 60 photos of him (mostly out of focus, he would not settle down) over the period of about half an hour. I had a cycle going with him jumping on my hand, then I would transfer him to a stick, then he would jump to a leaf, and then back onto me. He would always pause for a second or two (seen in the photo above) before making the leap from the leaf to my hand, and that's when I would photograph him.

First time to photograph this species since last summer. I don't see too many of these around, a nice spider with interesting markings.

Also, I've uploaded a video I took of the arm movements of male and female Tutelina jumping spiders on youtube:

I have always liked jumping spiders, we have the black kind with white markings around here, they make me think of volkswagons with legs when i look at them. I told my son they are "good guy" spiders when he asks about them, since they aren't dangerous like black widows or hobo's. I found a mammoth black widow in my basement the other day, i wish i had a macro lens, never saw a widow that big.
