hope cross capstone

hope cross capstone

situated on the old Roman road at the end of the Edale valley, Hope Cross marks the junction with the ancient packhorse route to Sheffield

Each side of the square cap-stone was inscribed with the destination names: Edale, Glossop, Hope and Sheffield...

Note the use of the word WAS, because some stupid idiot stole the capstone just after Christmas!
(what begins with 'W' and rhymes with anchor?)

If anyone has any knowledge of it’s whereabouts please could they contact the National Trust asap on 01433 670368 and leave a message for Myles Brazil, warden, or email; peakdistrict@nationaltrust.org.uk A map reference is all that’s required and it will be picked up.

the East Cliff at dusk

The seaside town of Whitby is divided by the River Esk which meets the North Sea at the harbour. The east and west banks of the river have the imaginative manes of East Cliff and West Cliff. The skyline of the East Cliff is domianted by the ruins of St. Hilda's Abbey and the parish church of St. Mary
