Kew Gardens Empty Bowls Project 2014
The Empty Bowls Project is an international movement that has resonated with many communities in the United States—including Kew Gardens.

Though the project has supported The River Fund every year, in 2014, the endeavor shifted focus to our Thanksgiving Turkey Program—which allows the donation made by each Empty Bowls guest to deliver a turkey to a family in need.

The project integrates community participation on several levels: (1) Seniors, children and other individuals make and decorate the bowls, (2) celebrities sign bowls to be auctioned, (3) the local pottery school, which sponsors the project, fires them with help from volunteers, (4) the local senior center hosts the community meal, and (5) on the day of the event (November 9, this year) residents from all over the city come together for a simple meal of soup and bread—and get to take their bowls home as a reminder that there are always empty bowls in our city.
