At Least They Said Please
I don't want to paint myself as an advocate, because in general, drugs are not really a good choice. But the absurdity of our drug laws, and the money we spend on this so called drug war is downright criminal. I was watching The Daily Show the other night, and they were talking about the "centrists" - people who find themselves in the middle of the madness, people who are really in the majority, people who don't get up on soapboxes either. Jon Stewart suggested that if they were to take to the streets, they would shout "be reasonable!".
I want that as a bumpersticker. Remember, the revolution is just a T-Shirt away.
If you're curious, while I'm rambling, this is "The Fence" at Carnegie Mellon. The Fence, on the Cut--the grassy area of campus between Forbes Avenue and Hunt Library--is the university billboard for student groups. The Fence must be painted in its entirety and no painting may be done during daylight hours. Students complete their painted message or advertisement and then guard their work through the night to make sure no one paints over it before sunrise.

Well, while it's mostly speculation, it's certainly possible that the paint, after all these years, is the only structural element. I've also heard people say that it's the most painted object in the world. So all that thickness, those hardened drips... it's just one layer after the next, year after year.

Wow, cool shot. It's really crazy that so much taxpayer money is wasted to pursue and jail people just for smoking pot. In the words of Rev. Bill Hicks, marijuana should be manditory.. calm some of these people down a bit.
"Be reasonable" I dig it. Time to draw up a shirt design...

I did a very short grant writing internship with a non profit that supplied medical marijuana for AIDS patients. It was so hard to get money for them, despite being such a good cause.
Cancer and AIDS. It does wonders to help some people.

Who care if it's beneficial or not as a legal argument? I don't.
Rights derive from property. The idea that the a government can tell me what I can and can't put into my body, or who I can put my body into and where, implies that the government has at least partial ownership of me and my body, and that is something that I categorically reject. You should be able to do whatever you want, as long as there is informed consent and you're not violating the rights of others, and that includes freebasing cocaine as well as smoking pot.

As for marijuana, I agree with you. I say "outlaw cigarettes, legalize marijuana". Personally I prefer it to alcohol.
