Here is another flowerless flower found in nature. This one I found on a hillside as I was walking back to my car after work. This really reminds me of a candelabra.
In English there is an idiomatic expression can't hold a candle to someone or something. It is used when comparing things. One is much better in your opinion
than the rest. First recorded in 1883 in William Norris's work No New
Thing he wrote:
"Edith is pretty, very pretty; but she can't hold a candle to Nellie."
Dolly Parton's song from 1980 Old Flames Can't Hold a Candle to You
"Old flames can't hold a candle to you
No one can light up the night like you do
Flickering embers of love
I've known one or two
But old flames can't hold a candle to you"
