Historic map of the Hinesburg Town Forest

    The earliest settlers to Hinesburg came to plots of land they had been granted by the Governor of New Hampshire; on these plots, they set up hill farms, only to abandon them in the latter portion of the 1800's as better farmland became available in the west. Early historical maps can tell us where these original farms were on the land.
