the heron dance

A silhouette of a great blue heron (Ardea herodias) reaches for a windblown willow branch in Constitution Gardens on the National Mall. The heron, a regular visitor to the Gardens, was briefly chased by a red-tailed hawk, and after the hawk left he circled around the pond before trying to settle on this willow branch.
