The Asante developed a highly centralized government with a paramount chief known as the Asantahene. The Asantahene, who inherited his position along matrilineal lines, has numerous chiefs below him throughout the kingdom who acted on his behalf. He also has many counselors with whom he conferred before making decisions. The Asantahene still plays an important role in Ghana today, symbolically linking the past with current Ghanaian politics.

The Asantehene has been knighted by the king, this asantehene is called Otumfo Osei Tutu the second. He is very well educated and a kind ruler. His Kingdom is very powerful in Ghana. They control 80% of the gold and cocoa in Ghana

He is actually the king (not a chief)of the Asante people. One of the few kings in Africa at the moment
