A Hazy Shade of Winter
I created this quilt in Washington, Il and it is called A Hazy Shade of Winter. My quilt measures 13X13.
There were no song titles humming through my brain, so I went to my
iTunes and started looking at the song titles. When I saw A Hazy Shade
of Winter, I knew I had my inspiration. If you go to this link, www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSd4QJBEMvk you will see the video and hear A Hazy Shade of Winter by Simon and
Garfunkel that fueled my inspiration. I went to my stash and found
that my fabrics were not hazy enough but then I thought, what about
the ‘wrong side’. Perfect, just the hazy shades I was looking for. The
lyrics in the song repeatedly mention going round and round and that
gave me the idea of a pattern that goes round and round.
This was fun, I am looking forward to the next challenge. This is the
first quilt challenge I have entered. My daughter encouraged me to
enter as she is also entering.

Great job and great interpretation of the challenge. I am so glad you flipped your fabric over instead of going out shopping and buyng more fabric. This is what Project Quilting is all about!

I love that you were able to use the wrong side of your fabrics to get just the right look! It really dose have that hazy feel to it.

I'm a believer that fabric does not have a wrong side, but a front side and the other side. Love your use of the other side here. The shades are great for the theme. I've been playing with wonky log cabins lately and love yours. Because I'm always the one to nit pick the little things, I'm also going to point out that the edge does not appear to lay straight. This is really important for a quality project. Also, the mitered corners of the binding could us some work. Check out this page http://www.quiltsbybarb.com/thethreebs.htm for a tutorial on bindings.

Thanks for the feed back. Actually the edge problem is poor photography on my part. You are correct on the binding, I have trouble getting the corners to look good. Thanks for the link to the tutorial, I will check it out.

I really love this piece. I love that you thought to use the backs of the fabric to create a 'hazy' look - that's exactly how you're supposed to 'think outside the square'. The touches of yellow are fabulous! Feels to me like the sun is 'peaking' out.
Great job realizing you CAN finish a quilt in a week - you just have to think a little smaller.
The only thing I would say is that I would have liked to see a little more quilting on this piece - either mimicking the strips or even something twirly/swirly/circular to contrast with all the linearity of the piece.
