14/15-02-09 Images of construction of Bridge at FOB Delhi..26 Armoured Engineeer Squadron, part of 24 Cdo Engr |Regt and based in BG(S) with the QDG BG...Tasks include\:.Force Support construction of force protection, weather proofing, road construction, bridges, power, water, etc.Colse support: Patrolling, demolitions, Explosive method of entry, gap crossing, search, etc..Currently the Sqn is building a Role 2 Medical Facility in DWYER, Constructing check points for the ANP and ABP to enable a more Afghan face on security of the DC, bridges and access tracks in the south of the AO for the local nationals and replacing a Medium Girder Bridge (MGB) at BALACLAVA crossing in Darvishan (Garmsir DC) with a Logisitc Support Bridge. The MGB is a combat bridge which we need to release for future operations. The LSB is a permanent bridge that will remain in the DC for as long as the locals require it. This project is one of the first permanent and tangible signs that ISAF is delivering a long-term solution – the District Governor (Abdullah Jan) is delighted. ..The construction consisted of..Ground Prepararion – 3 days.Setting out the site – 1 day.Moving the 10 ISO containers to site (with the brisge in them) – 1 day.Building the briddge – 4 days...However, the first 2 days of construction were delayed by the report of a suicide bomber targeting the DC...The bridge site is commanded by Staff Sergeant Cattle (Beef!) who is a bridging instructor. The other specialist on site are SSgt Purves (Ground Works) and SSgt Gallagher (Construction). There are 20 other troops on site. .
