• Cool clock. Was a present so I don't know where it actually came from. Oh also it's wrong, but still running (hm)
  • Grand plans.
  • Old and suffering printer/scanner. The scanner seems to work fine, but the printer has seen better days
  • Happy Hacking Keyboard Lite II plus Wacom tablet from the 90's, I think.
  • Fake Aeron! It's very comfy and half the price of a real Aeron.
  • 20" Apple Cinema Display (love it) showing MacOS 10.5
  • PowerMac G5, Dual 1.8Ghz PPC with 4GB of RAM and an 80GB HDD. That would have been top of the line of course, on release. Now, not so much!
  • Timex Ironman, Blackberry Bold 9700, 1st gen iPod Touch, Pilot V5 0.5 extra fine pen, Moleskine squared reporter style notebook, Canon 50mm f1/8, Brownie Hawkeye in place of my Canon EOS Rebel XTi

Practical antiques

Newer Older

Now that I'm getting back into photography as a hobby/obsession, I've set up a "photo lab" desk.

For some reason I'm always more comfortable using older, "proven" hardware. So for photography stuff I've eschewed my Macbook in favor of an old PowerMac G5.

Check out the notes for more goodies.

Update: This workspace made Lifehacker. Awesome! Thanks LH.

It's beautiful. What screen saver is that? Or is it just Geektool on a clean page?

    Man, I love that clock!

@Cain The screensaver is MatrixGL, which has always been one of my faves.

@frederikjurk That clock is a total mystery. All I know about it is that it was purchased somewhere in Toronto for me by people who have excellent taste :)

    @Tyler Thanks! It's a great concentration space.

And the fake "Aeron" ? Where would I find one of those? ;)

That is a great setup. I am a firm believer in the 'last year's model' philosophy. Less of a learning curve with older proven, stable gadgets.

The clock is an Eames design by Herman Miller, Inc out of Zeeland, MI.

@cwight Aha, found it. It's a Realspace PRO Quantum. It's not quite an Aeron, but it's a pretty excellent chair. I sit on it *a lot* and long term it's held up well.
