Shanghai Traces
These are stills from my real-time, algorithmic video piece Shanghai Traces, which was exhibited at OV Gallery in Shanghai from January 23 to March 13, 2010, as part of the Make Over show, curated by Rebecca Catching. The show was a response to Shanghai's massive beautification campaign in anticipation of hosting the World Expo this year. The falling objects are the wares of Shanghai street vendors who are being expelled from the city center during the Expo.

The images were created using a program I built in Jitter. I feel the medium of real-time, generative video is well-suited to capturing the subject of a city in constant flux.

Still prints from the video on archival paper (88.9 x 66.7 cm), as well as editions of the video itself, are available from OV Gallery in Shanghai.
