Lesson: Take a burst of photos, easily a hundred in a minute's time, to best capture a precious pose. Use (or crop to) Portrait mode - don't always shoot in Landscape mode.
On 06 Sept. 2011, this image was requested by Getty Images but it could not be submitted without a model release, which I could not obtain not knowing the subject.

Mike, a riveting photo -- absolutely one of the most beautiful child photos I've ever seen. I admire the little girl for going up on pointe, although I'm sure if her dance instructor had been there to witness it, the teacher would have had a fit -- little girls in ballet class aren't **ever** allowed to go up on pointe. All they're allowed to do is demi-pointe, which is going up on the ball of the foot, not the toe. Something about how it seriously injures still-developing bones in the foot. It's a universal rule among all dance studios until the little girls get older, about 12 or 13. THEN they're allowed to go up on their toes. Anyway, maybe she did it just for you, Mike -- quite an honor! :-)
