Actually the guy studied the structure plans for the WTC to build this & also found excuses to take breaks on it, because it was emotionally hard for him to build it, so yeah.
May be in poor taste, but I don't think there is likely to ever be an appropriate time to build something like this.
Yeah, I understand the reasoning behind it. but 2 things here: 1 the explosion is a bit out of taste, and 2 Lego isnt the best medium for something of this seriousness.
I had mixed emotions when I first saw this, and I agree that it's in questionable taste. However, after sleeping on it, I feel that it isn't any more controversial as a few other things I've seen rendered in LEGO, and looking at simply the construction aspect, this is quite the marvel of LEGO engineering. The organicness of the explosion and smoke is stunning, especially juxtaposed against the straight lines of the buildings.
Yeah, it's probably too soon, but just like any other artistic medium, LEGO builders build what they see - good and bad. If this is the way the builder felt like coping, I say more power to him. He's done a very good job of capturing the moment, had he not done so I'd feel differently about this.

It's well built, but I feel it's in poor taste.

Ok, changed the title to something a little less dramatic. As for "down voting," this isn't Digg.

I don't get why people dislike it so much. It's an accurate representation of history.

I agree. I think they don't dislike it, so much as, as Matt (Forcum) said, it's a rather serious subject for a Lego MOC.
