the three little pigs went to market,
but they gut butchered and dressed
then chopped into pieces...
now they're no longer called pigs
they now are all pork meat... :-D

i went to a wedding in sagada, and when you enter the perimeter of the ceremony, they give you a piece of raw meat (pork or beef i don't know) tied in twine. i thought i had to eat it raw but it turned out to be wedding tokens. is the practice you're describing here the same?

@eman... i think the piece of meat you recieved as tokens is what we call watwat and is given during the wedding itself... the ritual in this case is the "bakid", a ceremony usually done about three days after the wedding ceremonies itself, but which, in recent times, had been celebrated on the day after the wedding...
the meat of these butchered pigs are also given out as watwat to guests though...

honestly, this picture is sooo gross, bordering on hapless disregard and cruelty to animal rights...BUT..being a Pinoy myself, this pics portray a custom we just have to live with... i guess.
