Nepal - Mahasivaratri at Pasupati

Mahashivaratri, the great night of Lord Shiva, is celebrated every year on the eve of the moonless night in the month of Falgun. Thousands of Hindu devotees are observed at Pasupatinath on this night. Activities of Sadhus and widely available Bhang on this night have been another major reason for many, specially youngsters, to visit Pasupatinath.

There are several versions of beliefs related to the celebration of this auspicious night. It is believed that Lord Shiva was married to Parvati on this day and performed the ‘Tandava’. Some people believe this was the night when Lord Shiva ‘created himself’ by his divine grace and others believe that this night was the choice of Shiva as the favorite night when asked by Parvati.

Fantastic shot, particularly at night. I was without a tripod so had to handhold some really dark, blurry shots. It's an amazing complex, particularly when viewed/ observed from above. I can't imagine how incredible it is during a festival.
