Scenes from the Old West - Monument Valley in Black & White

    Newer Older

I visited Monument Valley in NE Arizona in April 2010 - it's always a great place to visit. I finally got around to processing some of my photos and decided to see how they looked in black and white (pretending to be a junior Ansel Adams!). I liked the way they turned out!

There is just something about these photos that conjure up images of the wild West.

ALEK YOOKO, Justin Bland, and MR BILL 2009 added this photo to their favorites.

OK, Ansel, it is a great shot! Seriosly, Alaska Dude, It is a really nice composition and the fact that it has some sky effects makes it a real possibility for an outstanding photograph.

As for the processing, it does not seem to have a full range of tones, it is hard to make out a pure black, and the whites are not glowing. I would say it needs more contrast. Try it with more contrast and a lower gamma. I think it would shine.

I have in mind something like this one of mine. It's not Monument Valley but I think it shows what you might do.
