North Rim Clouds from Bright Angel Trail - Grand Canyon

Newer Older

We hiked down Bright Angel Trail to Phantom Ranch to enjoy some winter in Arizona.

This view of the light on the North Rim struck me as special.

"You cannot see the Grand Canyon in one view, as if it were a changeless spectacle from which a curtain might be lifted, but to see it you have to toil from month to month through its labyrinths. It is a region more difficult to traverse than the Alps or the Himalayas, but if strength and courage are sufficient for the task by a year's toil a concept of sublimity can be obtained never again to be equaled on the hither side of Paradise." John Wesley Powell

Simply gorgeous photo. The canyon looks so pristine, as though you were the first to enter below the rim.

Bill - Thanks :) we were today. First tracks in fresh snow until the mules came up from Phantom. I beat you this time :) Rare that I can get there before you. You must have gotten stuck in Flag - or slept in for a change. Did you see the photo of the Bobcat snowplow that plowed us in.

I started a new group - Grand Canyon Hikers and Backpackers Association - join us there and post some pics.
