While I have mixed feeling about my vacation
to Morocco (I will elaborate more about this
at a later date), I absolutely loved the
desert. We travelled by camels from Merzouga,
located in southeathern Morroco, into the Erg
Chebbi desert for about two hours. Even
though the desert itself is relatively small,
its dunes are up to 150 m high. For some
reason our tent camp was located just below
one of these monster dunes, shielded from the
sun. And since we arrived relatively late, we
immediately wanted to go up this dune to
watch the sunset.
Well, it was a very windy day and the trip
to the top of the dune seemed to take forever
and was extremely exhausting in these
conditions (like two steps forward, one step
back). When we finally made it, the sun had
just set below the horizon -- but
nevertheless the view was so spectacular that
I just stared in awe. It was certainly the
beginning of me falling in love with the
desert. ;-) Because of this I wanted to start
my Morocco series with this photo. It is one
of the first photos I took from the ridge of
the dune. I didn't have a tripod or graduate
filters with me and the wind was blowing like
crazy, so it is neither technically very good
not a perfect composition, but I hope it can
still convey my feelings of wonder.
Wish you all a Happy New Year! Looking
forward to your pictures in 2010.

unternommen hast und war schon gespannt auf
deine Fotos. Der Anfang deiner Serie ist
großartig ! Es gibt viele Wüstenbilder, auch
mit Sonnenuntergang. Dieses hier ist für mich

Herrliches Wüstenbild.
Marokko ist wirklich ein sehenswertes
Reise/Fotografenland.
deine weiteren Marokkobilder

Without the right tools you did a good job,
and i think that is the meaning of a good
photo, it's your eye, Andreas, that did it
very well here. I like the lines and smooth
tones. I geuss it was difficult to frame the
right part in a landscape with so many forms
and possible compositions.
Have a great new year!
