Crooked Creek - Jefferson County, IN. April, 2013.

This species is so far the most common and widespread mayfly I have encountered in Indiana streams. They also get pretty large and are hard to miss clinging to the bottom of stones in streams.

Free-living caddisflies are easily distinguished by their lack of case, two hooked protruding "tails" from the tip of their abdomen, and a small notch or V in the plate on their carapace.

This ID is still tentative, but it is definitely a mayfly in the family Baetidae. These tiny mayflies were found while kick-seining.

This is so far the only type of stonefly I have found in Crooked Creek, but they appear to be abundant.
