No Hope

No Hope

I took this shot only a few days after Paul's death. I was numb at the time, not really aware of how hard things would get as the days passed, not able to understand the permanency of what had happened. I saw this little plant growing in a dimple in the concrete slab at my Mum & Dad's back door and immediately thought of Paul, of how I wanted to share this amazing sight with him. The tenacity of this little plant, growing in such an unlikely place. How amazing.

I look at it now and I see the reality. There's no hope for this speck of life. Already, the leaves are withered and brown. It's dying, as it must, because a hole that small in the middle of a stretch of pavement can't provide for a plant no matter how tenacious life can be. There are limits.

Frog of Gold

Frog of Gold

I don't know what species this is, but he was as a cute as a frog can be and golden. He was also very cooperative.

One and Many

One and Many

I had to be patient. If I moved, they ran, their many feet audible on the sand like distant rain. They huddled at the water's edge, trying to escape me, then vanished into the wet sand as if they'd never been there. I crouched and waited, knees aching, and was rewarded by their return, each crab emerging from the sand with a moist pop. They were amazing.
